Is there any plans of Guild wars to transition from b2p to an f2p mmorpg? - Guild Wars Forums

With the close release of guild wars 2, and the transition of many other ncsoft mmorpgs such as aion, and lineage 2 to f2p, are there similar plans for guild wars?

Last time I checked GW was f2p...though I have not logged on for over 18 hours now so I guess it could have changed .

Guild Wars is buy to play; buy the game once, and then never have to pay sub fees.

Guild wars is not f2p, its buy to play. Two different things. And that is what i asked, are there any plans for guild wars to go free to play, without having to buy a copy.

No plans announced or rumored.

I doubt it though - I would imagine Guild Wars would have been included in the GW2 collector's edition box if so.

Since the beginning of the 1st pre-purchase beta weekend event for GW2 these kind of threads are cropping up why can't we use the 1 thread and speculate

My opinion is no never in a million years will it become truly f2p as even with GW2 on the horizon GW1 will still make anet money regardless as it is pretty much self sufficient and if the time comes where they could run it on the back end of GW2 servers that means less money going out and more profit in their pockets.

I think the HoM rewards for GW2 will be enough to generate sales for this game, anet has no reason to make this game completely free, if you want it, buy it, it's worth the money, and you can get a complete collection with all chapters and EOTN for less than we paid for Prophecies.

No-one has suggested that GW will go the way of paying nothing at all to play. In my opinion I don't want it to. I'm yet to play an rpg that I didn't buy or subscribe to that was any good.

f2p = FREE TO PLAY if you play its free... DERP

p2p = pay to play = subscription fee = WoW etc.

P2P = sub fee
B2P = buy game and play free
F2P = completely free you buy nothing
